Your home city will be Atenas, a city known for having perfect, spring-like weather year round. In Costa Rica, you can enjoy tropical beaches, picturesque mountains, an ideal climate and so much more!

When you travel to Costa Rica, you will find yourself immersed in la pura vida. This is a phrase that translates to “full of life”, “plenty of life”, and “it’s going great”. It is used as a greeting, to say goodbye, to describe something, and much more. It is representative of the Costa Rican culture, which is relaxed and laid back. Costa Ricans enjoy better living standards than most of Central America in addition to one of the highest life expectancy levels in the Western Hemisphere!

1. If you get a cell phone while in Europe, get a plan that allows you to add minutes to your phone whenever you’d like. This way, you can add more minutes to your phone only when you really need them instead of receiving a large monthly bill for how much you’ve accrued.

2. When traveling, use hostels instead of hotels. You can find hostels all over Europe for as little as 15 Euro.

3. Buy toiletries and other necessary items before you leave the U.S.

4. Take advantage of public transportation. Buses are MUCH cheaper than taxis.

5. Don’t eat out for every meal! Make a meal for yourself at least once a day.

6. If you have an international student ID or an ID for your program, always carry it with you. Many places have discounts for students.

7. Search entry times and fees before you go to museums or other tourist locations. Many have special deals for certain days of the week.

8. Buy cheap plane tickets when traveling to other countries in Europe. There’s no reason to spend a lot of money on a ticket when your flight will only be a couple of hours.

9. Travel with someone so you can split costs of certain things (such as lodging).

10. As much as you may want to spend money on clothes, shoes, and couvenirs that appeal to you, remember that it is likely you will find similar items all around Europe. So, limit yourself and budget your money for each new place you visit.
